Our story

A cafe he came tofor two days.

Guru Ghuman grew up in a small farming village in northern India and came to Australia in 2007, trained as a chef and in hospitality management. He came to Albury in 2013 to help out a friend who had worked in his kitchen in Melbourne. When they left the cafe, he took it on.

"I came here for two days, and my habit is I always look into people's eyes and I said 'hello' to a few people and they smiled and said 'hello', and I thought 'wow' this is a beautiful place."

He has been on Dean Street ever since. The menu carries food influences from all over the world, Mediterranean, Spanish and restaurant culture, because a qualified chef writes it rather than a supplier. The coffee is deliberately consistent, and people's feedback on what they like is what keeps it that way.

The wall

Something to readwhile you wait.

The walls are covered in handwriting. It is a habit Guru picked up from his school days in India, and he still adds to it.

"If you feel bad, if you read something inspiring or read a motivation quote it gives you a bit of a kick of energy."

Success is not key to happiness. Happiness is a key to success. Love what you do.

The coffee

The same cup,every single time.

The doors open at half past five on weekdays, which means the first coffees go out before most of Albury is awake. Extra shot or decaf is 50 cents. Almond, coconut and lactose free milk is a dollar. The chai is made with leaves rather than sugar powder, from a family recipe.

"Our coffee is also very consistent. People's feedback about what they like makes us strong."
